New Bridge on the Rotary Trail near Trent

Last night Peterborough City Council approved the project to build a new pedestrian bridge over the Trent Canal at Trent University. Total cost is $807,890. Very expensive, as the bridge will have to ramp up over the canal so that boat traffic on the Canal can proceed without interference. It is my understanding that the Peterborough Rotary Club will be making a substantial contribution to cover the costs. The Rotary has done a fantastic job of creating the Rotary Trail along the Otonabee, running through the City of Peterborough and on up to Lakefield. A glitch in the current trail is crossing the Trent Severn Canal at Trent University. Walkers, runners and bikers have to currently leave the Trail and go on to Nassau Mills Road to use the main traffic bridge and then go along the road for about a kilometer before picking up the Rotary Trail again. This new bridge will make a huge difference!
